General Bipin Rawat was born on 16 March 1958 in Pauri town of Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand state. General Bipin Rawat’s mother’s name is Not Known and His Father’s name is Lakshman Singh Rawat who is a Retired Lt. General Indian Army. Bipin Rawat has two daughters named Kritika Rawat and Tarini Rawat.



On 8 December 2021 in Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor General Bipin Rawat was killed in an IAF chopper Mi-17V5 crash along with his wife Madhulika Rawat and staff.

Bipin Rawat completed his primary education from Cambrian Hall School, Dehradun and then completed his schooling from St. Edwards School, Shimla and then joined Bipin Rawat National Defense Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He then graduated from the Defense Services Staff College in General Bipin Rawat Wellington and completed an Advanced Command course at the United States Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

General Bipin Rawat has also done M.Phil. In addition to his degree in Defense Studies, he holds a Diploma in Management and Computer Studies from the University of Madras. General Bipin Rawat was later awarded a doctorate in philosophy by Chowdhury Charan Singh University, Meerut for his research on military media strategic studies.

CDS Bipin Rawat began his military career in December 1978. He was assigned to the 5th Battalion of 11 Gorkha Rifles. And his father Lakshman Singh Rawat and were in the same unit.

General Bipin Rawat has spent 10 years in the anti-insurgency campaign and has also served in various majors from the current CDS. He then commanded a company in Uri, Jammu, and Kashmir while holding the post of Major. And he also commanded his battalion along the LAC at Kibithu as a colonel.

After being promoted to the rank of Brigadier General Bipin Rawat, he led the Sector 5 and Multinational Brigade of the State Rifles in Sopore during a VII mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where General Bipin Rawat was twice honored for mentioning the Force Commander.

Bipin Rawat is a Commanding General of the 19th Infantry Division in Uri also after being promoted to the rank of Major General.

General Bipin Rawat also joined the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Southern Command after being promoted to the rank of Army Commander. And then he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army. He then led the III Corps at Dimapur before taking command of the Southern Army in Pune as a Lieutenant General.

Then on December 17, 2016, he was appointed by the Government of India as the 27th Chief of Staff of the Army. He was also the 57th and final Chairman of the Major-State Committee of the Indian Army. And then on December 30, 2019, the first CDS was appointed.
