Terry Venables, a midfielder, played professionally from 1960 to 1976, making a mark with four clubs: Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Queens Park Rangers, and Crystal Palace.

Starting young, he left school in 1958 and joined Chelsea as an apprentice at 15. Later, Tottenham Hotspur noticed his talent and signed him for £80,000. Terry made his debut with Spurs in a 1-0 win against Blackburn Rovers on May 9, 1966.

He continued his journey, playing for Queens Park Rangers in 1969–1970. Venables then joined Crystal Palace in 1974, swapped for Don Rogers along with Ian Evans. Unfortunately, arthritis led to his retirement on New Year’s Eve in 1974, after 14 appearances in the Third Division.

Despite winning two caps in 1964, drawing 2–2 with Belgium and 1–1 with the Netherlands, Venables wasn’t included in the final squad of 22 for the 1966 FIFA World Cup, although Alf Ramsey had named him among the “possibles.”
